Celebrity Chef Cooks Up Summer BBQ in Hingham [VIDEO]

Summer Shack's celebrity chef dinner was a hit last night, as the restaurant was filled with a dinner crowd ready to eat special barbecue dishes cooked by Award Winning Chef, Andy Husbands.

It was a summer barbecue in the middle of winter at the last night as over 50 guests were served delicious smoked dishes by award winning chef Andy Husbands.

Husbands, who is Chef and Proprietor of the famous South End restaurant 647 Tremont and Sister Sorrel was Jasper White’s celebrity chef  on Wednesday in Hingham.

Husbands has a passion for barbecue and in 2007, he placed first out of 510 teams at the prestigious Kansas City Royal BBQ Competition.

“Barbecue is just my passion,” he said.  “It’s something I’ve been doing for years on end.  It’s just the American pastime.  I can’t think of a better day than to be inside with friends drinking a little Bourbon and smoking meats.  It brings about friends, laughing, family-just good times.”

Husbands used a Lang Smoker, which is a large outdoor grill, to cook his barbecue meats. He cooked up beef briskets, St. Louis cut spareribs, pulled pork, catfish, and chicken.

“True authentic barbecues is done outside,” Husbands said as he cooked in front of the Derby Street restaurant.

Husbands has traveled throughout the country cooking on his Lang Smoker  in Tennessee and even right in Rockefeller Plaza in New York.

Husbands said his specialty is his ribs and briskets.  He cooks the briskets slow and low for 14 hours with a secret spiced rub.  His St. Louis pork spareribs cook for 4-5 hours.

When he is not in the kitchen, Husbands is competing with his internationally recognized BBQ team: iQUE BBQ, the first New England Team to become world champions of BBQ by winning the Jack Daniels World Championships in 2010.

He is currently an author of the cookbook,  “The Fearless Chef” and will be releasing his new book, “ Wicked Good BBQ” On March 1.

Guests of Wednesday’s “Celebrity Chef” dinner at Summer Shack enjoyed Husbands’ dishes along with beer.  The price also included service and tax and a visit from Husbands and White.
