Child on Bike Hit By Mail Truck in Hingham Neighborhood

A 4-year-old girl was struck by a postal truck while riding her bike on Monday morning.

A 4-year-old girl was struck by a postal truck late Monday morning  while riding her bike on Forest Lane, police said.

Hingham Police confirmed the left front of the postal delivery vehicle struck the bicycle  at 11:30 a.m.

Hingham Fire Department paramedics transferred the child to the South Shore Hospital and her injuries are classified as “non-incapacitating.”  The girl was wearing a proper bicycle helmet, police said.

The mail truck was driven by a 21-year old postal employee.

No charges have been filed while the investigation is still ongoing.

Police have not released the child’s name and the driver’s name.

This is the second consecutive day that a child on a bike has been struck by a vehicle on the South Shore.  On Sunday, in Whitman, a man died after he and a child were struck by a pickup truck on a busy road, WATD reported.

The girl was on a bicycle with training wheels when she and the man were hit on Temple St./Rte. 27.
