New York Rangers center Brian Boyle, a Hingham native dropped his gloves last night at Madison Square Garden against his hometown team, the Boston Bruins.
Boyle slapped the puck right into the foot of Bruins big man Adam McQuaid after the whistle had already been blown.
McQuaid thought Boyle’s shot was unnecessary went after the Hingham NHL star and the two exchanged right hands to the face.
Boyle and McQuaid were two of the biggest men on the ice last night, which excited the New York City crowd. Boyle is listed at 6’ 7’’ and McQuaid stands at 6’ 5’’.
The fight broke out at the end of the first period in last night’s 4-3 Rangers overtime victory over the Bruins.
Boyle made headlines last season when he said he hated the Bruins. The former Boston College and St. Sebastian's High School star had a team-high seven penalty minutes in last night’s game.
The son of Judy and Artie Boyle of Hingham, Boyle grew up in an enormous Irish-Catholic family with 12 siblings.
