Ritz Camera Shop Bankrupt, Closing in Hingham
The 94-year-old camera company based out of Beltsville, Md will be closing all of its 137 stores including the one at Derby Street Shoppes.
If you buy your cameras, get your photos developed, resized and framed at the Ritz Camera Shop right on Derby Street, you will have to find a new location.
The camera shop announced it would be going out of business after failing to find a buyer through a bankruptcy auction, according to the Boston Herald.
The 94-year-old camera company based out of Beltsville, Md will be closing all of its 137 stores including the one at Derby Street Shoppes.
The company suffered from insufficient capital amid the shift to digital photography and the reduction in in-store film processing, the Herald reported.
The bankruptcy will benefit local camera shops such as Noble’s in Hingham Square who has stayed in business since 1956.

Ritz probably suffered because they were a rip off, they always had prices way higher than any other place.

Their prices may have been high, but they did an excellent job enlarging 3 family photos, which I will cherish forever. Sorry to see u go.

Ritz Camera was a ripoff indeed! I think Nobles Camera Shops should consider having a store at the Derby Street Shoppes. The Derby Street Shoppes is always a zoo and very busy. I think Nobles would do great business at the Derby Street Shoppes!
