Tax Increases for Hingham School and Fields Projects

If the new middle school and high school fields are approved, find out how much it will cost you.

Town Administrator Tex Alexiades gave Hingham residents an idea of what their tax increases would look like over the next 10 years if the Middle School Project and High School Fields Project were both approved.

Alexiades showed residents at the Board of Selectmen meeting on Tuesday night a chart that showed that the tax increase would start off slow and reach its peak during Fiscal Year 2015.

According to Alexiades, the tax increase from both proposed projects, based upon the average value of a Hingham single family home ($651,950) would cost home owners as much as $427 in FY 2015, $416 in FY 2016, and $405 in FY2017.

The increase from the Middle School project will be more significant than the Fields Project.  If the Middle School project is approved, taxes will increase beginning in FY 2013 and running through FY 2021.  Taxes for the High School Field Project will begin to increase in FY 2013 and last until FY 2017.

Last Tuesday, on October 24 to ask voters to increase taxes  to raise money to pay for the proposed new Middle School and Hingham High School Fields Project.

The will cost the town almost $35.6 million. The reconstruction of the will cost the town $935,000.
