Young Band Rocks Hingham

Made up of four Hingham students, Replay rocked Salsa's earlier this month.

They may be young, but they have the looks and talent of future rock stars.

Hingham residents Jack Wanty (age 11) , Aidan Connerly (age 10), and Charlie (age 11) and George  (age 9) Egan make up the band “Replay,” and are hoping to rock local venues in the future. After meeting at ’s Hobby Night in the Spring, they decided to put their musical talents together and form a band.

Earlier this month, Replay  performed at a packed restaurant in front of their family and friends.  The crowd was full of kids holding glow sticks and waiting to get each of the young rock star’s autographs on the posters that were made for the young stars.

The group of four can smash the symbols, slap the base guitar, and grove out on the piano. They emulate big time rock bands like Green Day, the White Stripes, and Slash.  They have created two of their own songs,  “Unknown” and “Superman” and can rock out to renditions of White Stripe’s “Seven Nation,” and Green Day’s “Brain Stew.”  With the help of their band instructor Joey Zarlick, a Berklee School of Music graduate, the four rockers practice each Wednesday in their basement.

“Joey’s such a mentor,” said Julie Egan, mother of members George and Charlie. “He’s so caring and patient.  He knows how to put it all together.”

Each of the band’s members like playing for different reasons. George, a Foster School fourth grader, and the band’s drummer and singer said he wants to continue producing music, just in case he doesn’t become a star football player.  Jack, a sixth grader at the and guitar player, wants to outdo Justin Bieber.  Aidan, a fifth grader at Foster and keyboard player said he simply loves music while his classmate and neighbor George, who plays the guitar wants to be like one of his favorite rock groups, Slash.

“We like playing other places so people can hear our music,” Wanty said.
