Town Looking to Resolve Issues at the Hingham Skate Park

Town Administrator Ted Alexiades said issues at the park include bicyclists using the park, lack of helmets, and behavior issues.

The Board of Selectmen are looking to resolve some issues at the that opened earlier this year.

Town Administrator Ted Alexiades said issues at the park include bicyclists using the park which is meant for skateboards and rollerblades only.  Alexiades also said there has been a lack of helmets and safety equipment and the park has had issues with negative behavior and access issues from younger children.

“We want the community to know that we are looking into the situation,” Alexiades said.  “We need to manage it and address it and we are.”

The skate park is part of the DPW/athletic fields complex off Fort Hill Street. At the new park, skaters are asked to wear helmets at all times and skating is not allowed after dark or when the surface is wet. The park is also for skating only although many bikers continue to use it.
