Traffic Study Shows Speeding is Not an Issue on North Street
Two speed counters proved that the majority of vehicles are following the speed limits on North Street.
After tracking the velocity of cars in two areas of North Street, the Hingham Traffic Committee have announced that speeding is not a factor on the road.
At a Traffic Committee meeting in late November, Hingham Police Sgt. Steven Dearth said that 95 percent of cars on North Street were travelling at the posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour. The speeds counters were set up in front of 166 North Street, across from the St. Paul’s driveway entrance.
Another speed counter was set up by the Post Office which recorded 85 percent of vehicles, traveling at an average of 24 miles per hour.
Sgt. Dearth said that the results clearly indicate that speed is not a factor on the street.
Committee member Daniel Zivkovich also confirmed that accidents are not an issue on the road.
