Unhappy Precinct 6A Voters Must Remain at Linden Ponds

Hingham Town Clerk Eileen McCracken and the Hingham Selectmen agreed to keep the Derby Clubhouse on Linden Ponds Way as the polling location for Precinct 6A.

As the 2012 Presidential Primary approaches, polling locations will remain the same in Hingham this year.

Hingham Town Clerk Eileen McCracken and Hingham Selectmen agreed Tuesday night that  voting for residents of Precinct 6A  will remain at The Derby Clubhouse Building on Linden Ponds Way after some residents had expressed unhappiness with voting at that location.

McCracken conducted a study in which she obtained information from 21 percent  of voters from Precinct 6A about their voting location preference.

McCracken said of the 123 residents surveyed,  19 residents would rather vote at the Middle School because they said voting at Linden Ponds was “awkward,” and said they were handled differently and felt “cramped.”

In opposition to the few who showed displeasure voting at the Derby Clubhouse, a total of 104 residents want to keep the polling location at Linden Ponds because there is less traffic, parking issues, and no lines.

After seeing the results of the study on Tuesday night, McCracken  along with the Selectmen agreed that the voting for Precinct 6A should remain at the Derby Clubhouse at Linden Ponds for at least the next decade.

“One main reason is for convenience of people (who live) there because a lot of them have problems at getting to polls,” McCracken said.  “It seems to work well.”

The next election in Hingham will be the Presidential Republican Primary on Tuesday March 6, known as “Super Tuesday.”
