A large water main break has closed areas of Pleasant Street at Middle Street and Pond Street.

The Hingham Police Department said the break occurred near 36 Pleasant Street and is believed to have started around 3:30 a.m.

The road is not passable at this time, according to Hingham Police and work crews are on the scene now.

Hingham High School has delayed its opening by 2 hours but Principal Dr. Paula Girouard McCann said the school did have water.

All other Hingham schools have started on time.
