Water Restored in Hingham After Large Main Break
Areas of Pleasant Street, Pond Street and Downing Street all lost water for more than six hours.
The Aquarion Water Company has fixed a large main break that left one Hingham neighborhood without running water for over six hour on Friday morning.
John Walsh, Aquarion's VP of Operations said the main break was fixed by 10:30 a.m. after crews had been working to fix it since 4 a.m. Walsh described the incident as a "radio crack" around the pipe which he said was most likely the result of cold weather. He said during the cold conditions, there is a higher frequency which allows the pipes to move and causes them to weaken.
Areas of Pleasant Street, Pond Street and Downing Street all lost water.
As of 10:30 a.m. areas of areas of Pleasant Street at Middle Street and Pond Street are still closed while crews repair the roads.
The road is not passable at this time, according to Hingham Police.
Hingham High School has delayed its opening by two hours but Principal Dr. Paula Girouard McCann said the school does have water.
