Board of Selectmen Budget Hearings, Poetry Reading

5 Things: A run-down of events and other useful information for your life in Hingham on Dec. 5, 2013.

1. The Board of Selectmen meets at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

The selectmen will go over various budgets and could vote on alcohol, entertainment and motor vehicle licenses. Click here for a complete budget.

2. Hingham Public Library hosts a poetry reading by Lee Firestone Dunne from 7 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in the Whiton Room. 

"The poems are memories of the author's childhood and written to honor her father who spent 34 years caring for the residents of "Poorhouse"-officially named The Stark County Home-a facility for people who were homeless or had no one to care for them. Ms. Dunne's family lived at "Poorhouse" while her father was superintendent."

3. The Zoning Board of Appeals meets at 7 p.m. at Town Hall. Click here for the complete agenda and more Thursday meetings.

4. There is a chance of showers late morning Thursday with a high around 52 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tonight cloudy, rainy, low around 47.

5. Born on this day in history: General George Custer, known for his last stand against Native Americans in Montana Territory (1839), Walt Disney (1901), musician Little Richard (1932), writer Joan Didion (1934) and actor Frankie Muniz (1985).
