MBTA Weekend Boat Service Sees Busiest Weekend Yet

The seven week-old Commuter Boat service is becoming increasingly popular.

MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott announced that the weekend of July 5th and 6th was the busiest weekend yet for the weekend Commuter Boat service between Hingham, Hull, Georges Island, and Boston. Over the weekend, a total of 3,662 people used the Commuter Boats and Saturday, July 5th marked the first time that over 2,000 people rode the boat on a single weekend day.

The service has been available for the past seven weekends, and during this time the boats have drawn nearly 18,000 customers for an average of 1,272 per weekend day.

There are fourteen roundtrips between Hingham and Boston’s Long Wharf each Saturday and Sunday. A number of boats make stops at Hull, Georges Island, and Logan Airport. The boats depart hourly from Hingham and Boston, beginning at 8am and 9am, respectively. On Saturdays, there are two additional round trips at night with the last boat departing Boston at 11:15pm, and arriving in Hingham at midnight.

“We are very pleased that summer travelers have chosen this convenient and affordable way to get in and out of Boston or visit Georges Island,” said General Manager Scott.  “More and more people are avoiding the hassle of driving and parking, and enjoying a stress-free boat ride into the city.”
