Storm to Have Biggest Impact on Southeastern Mass, Cape and Islands

Track of storm continues to play big role in potential wider impacts from system.

The powerful, tricky to predict ocean storm coming into the area is now looking like it will track close enough to Massachusetts to have significant impacts in the southeastern part of the state according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy snow is expected across Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Strong to damaging winds are also expected to be part of this system. Cape Cod and the Islands are also going to have to contend with coastal flooding.

Some accumulating snow is likely from Boston to Providence.

Remember as forecasters have been telling us all week - even a slight shift of the storm track to the east or west could significantly alter the forecast, with greater impacts on the state with a shift to the west.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday morning the following watches are in effect:

  • A Blizzard Watch has been posted for Nantucket, Dukes and Barnstable Counties.
  • A High Wind Watch has been posted for Nantucket, Dukes and Barnstable Counties.
  • A Winter Storm Watch has been posted for southeast Massachusetts.
  • A Coastal Flood Watch has been posted for Barnstable and Nantucket Counties.
