New Art Center For Kids Opens in Hingham Square

The Art Attic in Hingham Square gives kids a chance to create their own picture frames, plaster shapes and wooden boxes.

The latest addition to Hingham Square is the perfect place to take your craft-minded kids.

The Art Attic, which opened in October right next to the Upper Crust Pizzeria and Hingham Journal, allows children to create some spontaneous crafts, including a variety of paint-your-own items such as picture frames, plaster shapes, wooden boxes, canvases and more. The new Hingham art center also offers workshops on Tuesdays and Thursdays, each focusing on a single project.

Owner Jennifer Cammetti was inspired to launch her new business because of her love for planning birthday parties.

“I loved the idea of a place to have birthday parties, and it grew from there,” she said.

Parents can drop in with their kids any time Tuesdays to Fridays, from noon to 5:30 p.m and on Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for fun crafts.  Cammetti also plans on bringing in an art teacher this winter to help guide students in more involved projects, in a more structured setting.

Hingham schools’ early release days are a great time to stop by – Cammetti might pull out the karaoke machine for the kids to use when they’ve finished up their pieces, and she’s been known to lead the kids in a spontaneous game of freeze dance now and then.

And, of course, the studio is available for birthday parties, where up to 12 kids can spend 90 minutes with the birthday child, working on projects, listening to music and enjoying pizza and cake.

The Art Attic is not just for kids, though – Cammetti is planning to have evening workshops for adults with activities such as scrapbooking and more involved arts and crafts.

Don’t forget to bring by some canned goods, which Cammetti will be bringing to the 2nd Parish Church. The drive will run until December 20th, and everyone who participates will be entered in a drawing that could win them a party at the Art Attic.
