Construction is underway to transform the historic Hersey House into a Bed & Breakfast.

Its owner John McDowell is hoping to turn it into a renovated bed-and-breakfast and a single-family home, according to Boston.com

In March 2011, the Hingham Board of Selectmen sold the historic Hersey House to McDowell.

The Selectman agreed to McDowell’s plans for the historic Hingham home – to renovate it into one or two parcels and to restore a barn on the property.

The Hersey House was donated to Hingham in 1948 by Ira Hersey Sr.   In the past it had been used for school  and town services and was once used as Hingham’s  senior center.
