Study Shows Some South Shore Businesses Experiencing Growth in Tough Economy

A recent survey released by the South Shore Women's Business Network  shows that some South Shore businesses are experiencing growth despite the bad economy.

The survey showed that a significant number of South Shore Women’s Business Network members expanded or boosted their earnings in 2012, according to SSWBN media spokewswoman Jennifer Logue.

The survey showed one-third of SSWBN members said their businesses grew or expanded last year, with an equal number reporting financial growth in 2012.

In addition, the survey also showed that 70 percent of respondents said the economy had a negative impact on their businesses in 2012 and more than 10 percent of respondents reported experiencing a financial decline in 2012 – up from just 2.9 percent from last year’s survey.

Some of the specific business challenges members reported facing in 2012 included staffing issues, marketing their services to a wider audience and balancing work and family responsibilities, Logue said.

 “While it’s clear the overall economy continues to have an impact on local businesses, it’s encouraging to learn that so many network members expanded or achieved financial growth,” SSWBN Executive Director Katie Howard said in a statement. ,  “It’s gratifying to hear that SSWBN members believe the network plays a role in helping them achieve their business and career goals.”
