5 Things to Know Today: January 22, 2013

The news in and around Hingham today.

1.  Today will be cold and snowy.  There is a chance of snow before 1 p.m., then a slight chance of snow after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.   The temperature high will be 29 degrees but by night it will dip to 10 degrees.

2.  Although it's real cold today, students at the East School will pretend they are on a Tropical Island for Tropical Day. Students are encouraged to dress in their favorite tropical attire, but they still need to wear the appropriate jackets, hats and gloves to school due to the predicted snowfall.

3. The South Shore Hospital  will host the AARP Driver Safety Program, a classroom refresher course for drivers aged 50 and older. The event will run next Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

4. The Hingham High School Swim Team lost to Sharon on Sunday.The boys team were drefeated, 86-66. The girls were beat 99-83.

HHS Soph. Cece O'Reilly placed 1st in Diving.
Junior Graham Gilmore placed 1st in Diving and 2nd in the 50 Free.
Junior Katie Kelleher stole first from Sharon in both 100Free and 100 Back.
Freshman Maddie Collins places 2nd in 500free, setting a new personal best of 6:23.45.
Freshman Graham Barrett won the 50 free w/time of 24.89.

5. Mark your calendar for the annual Lincoln Day in Hingham, which will be held Feb. 2.
