Careless Driving on the Rise in Hingham?

In your opinion what is the issue?

Is careless driving on the rise in Hingham? The incidents on the police log show it.  Since December, four vehicles have collided with street poles , according to the logs.

On December 1, a woman smacked her vehicle right into a telephone pole on Whiting Street at around 5:30 p.m. Police believe she was drunk.

On New Years Eve, a driver flipped her vehicle after striking a pole on Free Street.  She was uninjured and alcohol or drugs weren’t a factor.

Just a week later, a vehicle struck a pole on Fort Hill Street at around 11:30 p.m. and this past Wednesday morning at around 7:30 a.m., a car crashed into a street pole on the 200 block of Main Street.

So what do you think is causing commuters to drive off the road?

Texting? Narrow Roads? Speeding? Let us know!

My observations? They are driving too fast - way over the posted speeds. Plus there is too much cell phone activity. If one wanted to make a cartoon of the average Hingham woman draw a black SUV with a woman on a cell phone inside. Two young trees were taken just this past week on Beal St (at Beal's Cove Rd). This is the 2nd time in recent months this median strip has been driven on. People! Pay attention to your driving. Please.

I agree that speed is a factor. However, the incident on Wednesday morning was caused by the snow and the fact that the roads had now been plowed! I wonder if the town will bother to plow for tomorrow morning's commute??
