Popup Campers on Front Lawns

Though it's against the building code, there are more and more popup campers around town. We have to be sensitive to the current depressed economy. Campers could be used as housing for children who are returning home without a job or disabled relatives who have no other place to call home.

There is however a solution to keep everyone happy. Building codes have been worked out the keep neighborhood peace and prosperity.

Some campers are in violation of building codes. Because of small lots and density, there could be blocked views, loss of air circulation and eye sores caused by neighbors' campers and trailers.

The codes state that campers in the front yard have to be in the driveway and only set up for a period of 10 day and must display a town permit. They are not allowed on front lawns, however they are allowed in backyards.

Does anyone have a popup camper near their house that is in violation of these rules and is a bother to ANY neighbor?

First speak to your neighbor to see if they have a 10-day permit or are even aware of the requirement. If your neighbor refuses to comply with the law, talk to your town building inspector.

Your inspector attempts to keep the peace and yet reduce bothersome neighborhood eye sores, noise or other problems that reduce quality of life and property values. Speak up to keep our neighborhoods clean, safe and desirable. When a house in the neighborhood comes up for sale, you will attract buyers who will be good neighbors.
