Hingham Police Arrest Burglary Suspect

The following was released by the Hingham Police:

One suspect has been arrested after a house break on Prospect St. earlier this week in which the homeowner walked into her home and found the suspects still inside.

The incident began on Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 1:22pm when the resident of the #100 block of Prospect St. arrived home and found an unfamiliar car in her driveway. She entered her home through the front door and found two men inside her home carrying bags. The men fled out the rear door, jumping 10-15 feet from a rear deck, onto the ground. The resident went out the front door and saw the two men, still carrying the bags, as they ran to their car.

The resident attempted to grab a bag back from one of the suspects as they climbed into the car. She was unable to retrieve a bag but was able to grab one suspect’s cell phone. The suspect’s drove away in a black car. The resident was could only remember a partial license plate.

Officers found entry had been made into the house by cutting a screen and lifting an unlocked widow. Numerous pieces of jewelry and a pillowcase were stolen from the house. Further investigation, including a search of the Registry of Motor Vehicles database for any similar partial matching vehicle registrations and a check of the cell phone’s home page led to a suspect.

On the phone’s Facebook app, the Facebook profile was that of “Tommy Miele”. Also, a black 2003 Saab 93 registered to Miele contained the same digits provided by the resident. The black Saab was located abandoned in Weymouth the same evening. Hingham Detectives obtained search warrants for both the recovered cell phone and the Saab.

On Friday, August 23, 2013, Detectives obtained an arrest warrant from Hingham District Court for Thomas A. Miele, age 38 (DOB 7-23-75), 60 Charles St., Apt. 32, Weymouth, MA. Weymouth Detectives located him at his Weymouth apartment and placed him under arrest. He was charged with: 1) Breaking and Entering in Daytime for a Felony 2) Larceny over $250 3) Malicious Destruction of Property. He was ordered held without bail and transported to the Norfolk County House of Correction.

He is due to be arraigned on Monday, August 26, at Hingham District Court.

Detectives are still investigating to determine the second suspect’s identity. The case was investigated by Det. Robert Mansfield and Off. Nicholas Smith.
