Hingham Police Hold Successful Operation Safe Medicine Cabinet

Last month, the Hingham Police Department collected 36 percent more unwanted prescription pills than they did a year ago.

The Hingham Police Department collected more unwanted prescription drugs this year in their Operation Safe Medicine Cabinet.

Hingham Police Sgt. Steven Dearth released the following stats comparing this year to 2011.

-A 36 percent increase in the total amount of pills collected this year compared to last year (28,076 compared to 20,620).

-An increase of three times the amount of controlled substances and narcotics collected this year compared to last year (4,393 compared to 1,621).

-A 33 percent increase in the amount of non-controlled substances collected this year compared to last year (23,682 compared to 17,829).

-A 41 percent increase in the number of attendees this year compared to last year (111 compared to 65).
