Hedlund Says He Will Not Run For Senate

The State Senator announced on Facebook and Twitter that a run for US Senate is not in the cards for him.

State Senator Robert Hedlund (R-Weymouth) announced on Facebook and Twitter on Monday that he will not run for John Kerry’s US Senate seat.

Hedlund posted “Thx for encouragement but Sen run not in cards” on each of his two social media sites on Monday afternoon.

The longtime senator of the Plymouth Norfolk County also posted a comment about fellow Republican Scott Brown. Hedlund said that although he was disappointed and surprised in Brown’s decision not to run, he understands and respects it.

In a liberal state like Massachusetts, Hedlund is a very popular Republican senator. Last November, he was reelected as State Senator of the Plymouth Norfolk District for a tenth term.

the former Hingham High School graduate said being a Republican is just an "R" attached to his name.

“We hear all of this on class warfare... I’m someone who has lived here my whole life,” Hedlund said.  “I’ve been on the same softball team in Hull.. I have a certain connection to the area.”

The Plymouth Norfolk District  includes Weymouth, Cohasset, Duxbury, Hingham, Hull, Marshfield, Norwell and Scituate.
