Middle School Principal Confident Students Are Safe Under Old Roof
After last weekend's snow storm, the school has taken extra precautions to make sure the roof will not collapse again.
Two years ago, heavy snow caused the Hingham Middle School roof to collapse and after last weekend’s snow storm, many parents were concerned it would happen again.
“Some of you have sent me emails with questions about the middle school roof, since we had an issue two years ago,” Principal Roger Boddie said in an email to parents. “At that time the school department established procedures for monitoring the structural integrity of the roof to ensure the safe occupancy of the school…I am absolutely confident that when school reopens we are all safe.”
Boddie said the school has placed metal shoring poles to hold up the existing roof.

On Monday morning a professional structural engineer inspected the roof and reported no concerns. In addition, the school hired a roofing company to remove snow and clear the roof drains.
“I have personally inspected the roof and can tell you that we have less snow on the roof today as we had two years ago,” Boddie said.
