Hingham Residents Win Gold Medals in Quincy Senior Olympics

Even as they age, Hingham residents Gus Diezemann and Ed Petcavage keep winning.

Diezemann and Petcavage, who live at , each won six Gold Medals while participating in the 30th Annual Quincy Senior Olympic Games this May.

Diezemann won the half-mile walk, shot put, softball throw, basketball free throw, golf putting and horseshoe-pitching event.

"I can handle my own with the locals," Diezemann said.

The 85-year-old Hingham resident said he grew up playing baseball and he now competes in the Quincy Senior Olympic Games because it is a good incentive to keep in shape.

Petcavage, another Linden Ponds resident, was victorious in the half mile walk, one mile walk, standing long jump, javelin throw, basketball free throw and horseshoe pitching events.

Petcavage, age 67 said the competition is tough but the participants are really competing against themselves.

Petcavage said he trained at the Linden Ponds gym and in his past he used to run the mile and half mile in high school while growing up in Scranton, PA.

"It turned out to be a fun event," he said.

Over 150 men and women over the age of 55 participated in this year’s Quincy Senior Olympic Games that took place from May 14 to May 24.

The competitions were judged by age category in five-year increments: from 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, and up.
