Before some Hingham athletes stuff their tummies with turkey and pumpkin pie this Thanksgiving, they will compete in a 5k Road Race.
The 14th annual Turkey Trot road race is open to the public and will begin at 7:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning, beginning at Hingham High School.
Last year, Hingham Physical Education teacher Luke Dodge was the winner, finishing with an impressive time of 15:59.
Registration for the race cost $25 at www.hinghamturkeytrot.com. Runners can also sign up at any Marathon Sports store, including the one in Norwell (134 Washington ST/Rt 53). If spots are available, race day registration will also be held from 6:00 to 7:10 a.m. at Hingham High School. Only 1800 spots are available and the race is expected to sell out.
Race proceeds benefits the Hingham High Schools Cross Country and Track teams. Awards will also be given to the top three male and female finishers in each age group.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, runners are asked to bring canned goods and/or non-perishable food items at race registration to help support the Hingham Food Pantry.
All pre-registered runners will receive a long sleeved race t-shirt with the brand new 2012 logo.
