Backpack Collection Project to benefit The Kerry Jon Walker Fund – Chaired by HMC Member Rebecca Baker. Backpacks Due By: May 15, 2012

In the village of Gaoual, in Guinea, West Africa, the government will pay for a child to go to school if the child can provide his/her own supplies. The problem is that most children are from poverty stricken families who cannot afford school supplies. As a result, most children do not learn to read or write. The Kerry Jon Walker fund is collecting backpacks full of supplies to ship to these children. It is a concrete project – all backpacks collected will be put on a boat and shipped to Guinea. The children will receive them and go to school. If you provide one backpack, you are sending a child to school. The Hingham Mothers’ Club will be contributing to this cause, and we ask the public to do the same. If you choose to donate, backpacks should contain pencils and a pencil sharpener, crayons, markers, lined and colored paper, chalk and erasers. An additional $15.00 will purchase a uniform for the student. To donate a backpack, please contact Mickey Walker at  mikeydwalker@comcast.net.

Everyone loves a birthday party, and this one is for a good cause. Bring your child, up to age 6, to the HMC party! We will provide decorations, cake and favors for the kids. You bring a wrapped gift, and HMC will deliver it to Birthday Wishes. Birthday Wishes is a charity that brings the magic of a birthday party to thousands of homeless children each year. Founded in 2002 as a volunteer organization, Birthday Wishes has expanded its program to serve more than 165 shelters and transitional living facilities in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Long Island, New York. One of their goals is to provide birthday parties to all homeless children in Massachusetts.  For more information, please visitwww.hinghammothersclub.org.
