Hingham Resident Co-Chairs Event to Support Blind Literacy

The annual gala supports National Braille Press's literacy initiative, Hands On! Books for Blind Children.

Hingham resident Michael Sheehan will co-chair an annual gala in October to support the National Braille Press’s literacy initiative, Hands On! Books for Blind Children.

Sheehan is the CEO of Hill Holliday.  He will join co-hosts Jayne Donahue, Executive Vice President and General Auditor at State Street Corporation; Attorney James Coyne King, President and Co-Founder of Murphy & King Professional Corporation;  and Tom Sullivan, Chairman and Founder of Lumber Liquidators.

Each host represents a diverse group of business and community leaders who belive in, and support the organization’s mission to promote literacy for blind children.

The gala will be held at the Westin Boston Waterfront Hotel on Friday, October 19, 2012.

“We are honored to have such a distinguished group of co chairs who are all passionate about the mission of National Braille Press, to promote literacy among blind children,”  Brian MacDonald, President of National Braille Press said in a written release. “By combining the power of the support of our co chairs and the community, with a night full of entertainment and laughter, we know it will be a great event.”

The dinner program will include special performance by comedian Tom Papa who is the host of NBC’s “The Marriage Ref.”

The gala will also bestow the annual "Hands On!" award that recognizes the achievements of an individual in their effort to promote literacy in the blindness community.  This year, the award is being given to Diane Croft, founder of the Children’s Braille Book Club, who has worked at National Braille Press for 30 years.  Croft oversees all publishing efforts, new product development and the marketing and promotion of braille products.
