Festival of Trees Starts Friday Night

The Festival of Trees, one of the highlights of Hingham's Christmas in the Square, is a magical display of decorated trees, wreaths and gingerbread houses generously provided by local businesses and individuals for auction.

The Festival of the Trees will be held for the 11th year in Hingham on Friday and Saturday as residents will get a chance to bid on some of the most beautiful Christmas trees in town.

The event is sponsored by the Hingham Mothers' Club, which will transform the Hingham Community Center into a wonderland of decorated trees generously provided by local businesses and individuals.

All proceeds will go directly to the Friends of the Homeless of the South Shore and the HMC Scholarship Fund. Last year, the event generated $6,000 for High School Seniors residing in Hingham.

The festival is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6. Santa will be there from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Peel Pizza Co. will be selling kid slices (a half slice) for a $1 and adult slices for $2. Come feed the kids, see Santa, bid on trees and buy some raffle prizes.

The festival starts again at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 and goes until 12 p.m. The silent auction closes at noon on Saturday.
