Terry McDonough of Hingham was hired as the Eastern Regional Scout for the Arizona Cardinals
NFL scout and Hingham native Terry McDonough was hired by the Arizona Cardinals this offseason. McDonough was hired as the Eastern Regional Scout in hopes of helping the Cardinals return to the playoffs, according to the teams’ website. The Cardinals have not made the playoffs since losing to the Pittsburg Stealers in the Super Bowl XLIII in 2009. McDonough previously scouted for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was their director of player personnel for the last four years. Prior to joining the Jaguars in 2003, he worked for the Cleveland Browns from 1992-95 and then accompanied them to Baltimore, working for the Ravens from 1996-2003, according to the Cardinals’ team site. Who will you be cheering for, Brian Boyle or the Bruins?
The Boston Bruins are set to play the New York Rangers in the second round of the NHL playoffs, but some Hingham residents may be rooting for Ranger's Center Brian Boyle who was born and raised in Hingham. Boyle, age 28, who played high school hockey at St. Sebastian's School in Needham before attending Boston College, has 2 goals and an assists so far in the NHL playoffs. In recent years Boyle’s had many scuffles with the Bruins and he has developed a hatred for his hometown team. “I’m a big Red Sox and Patriots fan, but I hate the Bruins. Tony Amonte, a retired NHL player from Hingham, dropped an F-bomb on live television during Comcast SportsNet's Boston Bruins post-game show on Monday night. Amonte, co-hosted the post-game show with Michael Felger at the studio on Causeway Street, across from the TD Garden. The show aired just after the Bruins' historic come-from-behind victory. Amonte did not know he was live on air when he used profanity. He was distracted by rowdy fans, who were banging on the studio's windows. Hingham High School girls’ ice hockey captain Emily Falvey won this years' Hobey Baker Award for exemplifying both teamwork and academic excellence. The award is presented to each high school’s hockey player who most exemplifies the values and traits of Hobey Baker himself: character, commitment, teamwork, persistence, selflessness, academic excellence and sportsmanship. Baker is a member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, Canada's Hockey Hall of Fame, and Princeton's Hall of Fame. Falvey was one of 80 athletes in the state to receive the award. Ryan McDonough, a 1998 HHS graduate was named the General Manager of one NBA franchise on Tuesday.
The Phoenix Suns named Hingham native Ryan McDonough the team’s general manager on Tuesday. McDonough, age 33, spent the last three seasons as the assistant GM of the Boston Celtics. The newly hired NBA General Manager is the son of the late Boston Globe columnist Will McDonough. His brother Sean is a sports broadcaster on ESPN, and other brother Terry is the Director of Player Personnel for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL. McDonough grew up in Hingham and graduated from Hingham High School in 1998. He was first hired by the Celtics front office in 2003 as a special assistant to basketball operations. HHS beat out the rest of the state to win Jordan's Furniture and the Red Sox Foundation’s third straight “Double Play” campaign.
When you ask Hingham High School to help those less fortunate, they deliver. For the third straight year, HHS beat out the rest of the state to win Jordan's Furniture and the Red Sox Foundation’s “Double Play” campaign by collecting the most gently used baseball and softball equipment. HHS Assistant Principal Rick Swanson, who coordinated the collection, said the equipment will enable underprivileged children in Boston to play baseball and softball through the Rookie and RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) youth programs. “We donated about 150 pieces of equipment, including gloves, bats, batting helmets, baseball cleats and catcher’s equipment (shin guards, masks and chest protectors),” Swanson said. Hingham will build an artificial turf field with new lights a press box and larger bleachers that seat over 1,000 spectators.
It took hours of discussion between 1,800 residents and a ballot vote, but the majority of Hingham citizens approved new high school fields, artificial turf and lights on Monday night. “It's been 58 years since we addressed these fields, 58 years,” Hingham High School Athletic Director Margaret Conaty said. The majority of Hingham residents mirrored Conaty’s frustration. In a ballot vote, Hingham residents voted 1,354 to 347 to approve Article 8. The vote will give Hingham High School a new multi-purpose playing field with fencing, landscape, drainage and gate improvements. It will also give the high school new baseball and softball fields, over 100 additional parking spots, a larger press box and bleachers that will seat 1,800 …
