Hingham Storm Center: Storm Impact Minimal, Globe Reports

Friday, Jan. 3

1:35 p.m.

The impact of the storm on Hingham has been minimal, despite more than a foot of snow falling on the town, the Boston Globe reports

Deputy Fire Chief Robert Olsson told the Globe that flooding was minimal and in the expected areas, and no evacuations were necessary. Read the complete article here.

Hingham police said on Twitter that the car pictured above got stuck for a short time on Rockland Street near Kilby Street but was able to get out on as tide went down.

9:45 p.m.

The National Weather Service is warning South Shore communities of possible moderate to heavy flooding at high tide midday on Friday. See more here

8:45 a.m.

The Hingham Shipyard reports on Facebook:

"Plowing, snow blowing and shoveling have been going on through the overnight and continues through the morning at The Launch at Hingham Shipyard to clear the parking lots and sidewalks. Please check with the individual stores, restaurants and businesses to see what hours they will operate or if they will be opened today. Be Safe!"

Union Fish is closed for lunch but opening at 4 p.m. for dinner.

Whole Foods Hingham is opening at 9 a.m.

8 a.m.

The MBTA announced just before 8 a.m. that regular service has resume for Hingham boats.

Derby Street Shoppes are delaying opening until 12 p.m. Friday. 

"Please call ahead before you travel as some store hours may vary. Stay safe and warm today and only travel if necessary," the shoppes said on Facebook."

Thursday, Jan. 2

11 p.m.

In addition to Hingham Public Schools, all town offices will be closed Friday, according to the town website

9:25 p.m.

The National Weather Service is forecasting strong winds, including gusts up to 34 miles per hour, tonight into Friday morning in Hingham. 

A total nighttime accumulation in town could reach 6-10 inches, followed by 3-5 more on Friday. The snow is expected to taper off by 1 p.m.

4:50 p.m.

Hingham Public Schools are closed Friday.

National Grid is reporting on its live outage map that there are currently no power outages in Hingham. Let us know in the comments if you lose power.

4 p.m.

Derby Street Shoppes are open, they report on Facebook, but the following stores are closing early:

Brighton Collectibles 3pm

Hot Mama 3pm

Express 3pm

Crate & Barrel 4pm

Other store hours vary, so please call ahead before you travel and stay safe. Hidden Pond is closed for skating today.

3:04 p.m.

The Board of Selectmen meeting scheduled for Thursday has been postponed until Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. The agenda (click here) remains the same.

2:05 p.m.

All Town Hall offices are closing at 3 p.m. Thursday. All meetings scheduled for tonight are postponed.

1:15 p.m.

The Veterans Council meeting scheduled for this evening at the GAR Hall in Hingham has been cancelled. The Noise By-Law Study Committee and Board of Selectmen are still scheduled, according to the town website.

Gov. Deval Patrick is advising business owners to send their workers home early, and said that the MBTA and highways will remain open through the storm. More at http://goo.gl/lxdEvd

11 a.m.

Afternoon kindergarten and pre-school in Hingham have been cancelled. Otherwise school continues as normal.
