Boston Attorney Avoids Charges in Hingham Court After Teen Party

Containers of empty beer cans were spotted in her basement, the scent of pot was coming from one of the rooms, and as many of 30 teens were seen running from her Scituate home, yet Boston attorney Tracy Miner will avoid charges of furnishing alcohol to minors and keeping a disorderly house.

On Wednesday, a Hingham judge had taken the case under advisement for the next six months and if Miner stays out of trouble during that time, the potential charges will be dropped, according to the Boston Globe.

Minor was accused of violating the state’s social host law. Under the “social host” law, a  host is liable when he or she serves alcohol or controls the supply of alcohol.  Any parent who is convicted of allowing alcohol to be delivered to minors could face up to one year in prison or up to a $2,000 fine or both.

The New Years Eve incident comes just a year after a Hingham mom faced similar charges for allegedly hosting a party on Brewer Way.

Hingham had charges of selling/delivering liquor to a person under the age of 21 and keeping a noisy and disorderly house continued without a finding of guilty to March 12, 2013 in Hingham District Court. 

 “Parents have a liability for being responsible for knowing what’s going on in their house,” Hingham Police Sgt. Steven Dearth said last April when asked about the issue.
